Statement:
Malcolm is a episodic series about a ex military black man who, after losing his wife and son, decides to take the law into his own hands by taking out twelve of the most evil people he can find. The show focuses primarily on the oppression of underrepresented people. Logline: An ex-military black man turns vigilante after the senseless death of his wife and son. Purpose This show is meant to outline the current disparities that we have in our politics, culture and world alike. We can all agree that there are things that need to be changed in our system but the how and what is what causes many of the arguments and protests. Each of the characters in the show outline a different primary viewpoint. Malcom symbolizes the militant more liberal idealist viewpoint. He stands for those that feel our government and systems have failed us to the point that we must take this justice into our own hands. While his intentions may be good, his methods cannot be excused. The Police stand for the ideal of organized and law abiding justice. Their purpose and intentions are good but, in action, their force may not always fulfill it. Finally, the News or the free press symbolizes the many accounts that can come from a single event and how their portrayal of it alone can change the way the public views a person or scenario. We want to challenge the audience to question their current view and possibly be more sympathetic to others in the way they see the world. |
